If you are in New York in september, you should definitly check out Sonny Vandevelde backstage documentation of fashion weeks from around the world. The exhibition is in a collaboration with HINTMAG. Sonny have really been around and started to do backstage almost 10-15 years ago. So these pictures are defnitly a bit of fashion history, check it out.

Ola Pehrsons konstnärskap rör vi oss med snabbhet mellan mentala representationer och tankefigurer till virituella världar och skenvärldar. Centralt är intresset för det mänskliga beteendet, vad som styr det och hur det kan manipuleras. Intresset för hur vi uppfattar verkligheten och hur denna uppfattning sedan formar rörelsemönster och beteende manifesterades redan tidigt då Ola, i början av sin kariär, konstruerade en typ av glasögon genom vilka användaren fick en rapphönas synfält. Fascinationen över vår perception, resulterade även i verk som på olika sätt handlar om information och media, och om de mekanismer som gör att vi bedömmer något som trovärdig eller icke trovärdig. Olas konstnärskap har på så sätt starka beröringspunkter med den kongnitiva vetenskapen och i ett flertal verk återkom han till en av vår samtids mest betingande krafter; den globaliserade marknaden: Denna månghövdade och till synes allsmäktiga makt som vi alla kommit att bli en del utav, och som ibland håller oss under armarna - ja får oss att flyga, för att i nästa stund nyckfullt släppa oss i fritt fall. Trots sin konceptuella underfundighet stannar Ola Pehrsons konstverk aldrig vid smart satir utan glider över både i andliga och surrealisitska gränsland och väcker högst existentiella frågeställningar med beröringspunkter ända tillbaka till Platons idélära. Men samtidigt som konstverken leder oss ut på de djupaste farvatten, för de oss nästan alltid tillbaka till den ”lilla världen”; och mer precis till konstnärens föräldrarhem, en förtortsvilla i Skälby utanför Stockholm. I Olas konstnärskap framträder föräldrarhemmet i olika skepnader och tycks sväva omkring i ett besynnerligt universum där kapitalismens väsen existerar bland andra svårgripara krafter och betingelser. Ibland drar sig perspektivet långt tillbaka och vi tycks betrakta förortsvillan och människorna som bor där från ett utommänskligt plan, för att i nästa stund dras ända in i mamma Berits kök, och djupare ned i det undermedvetnas irrgångar.

Ola Pehrson föddes 1964 och utbildde sig till konstnär på Idun Lovén och på Kungliga Konsthögskolan i Stockholm. Han fick sitt publika genombrott 1999 med verket Yucca Invest Trading Plant som bland annat visades på Tensta konsthall och på Moderna Museet i Stockholm. Vid sin död, i april 2006, hade Olas konstnärskap väckt stort internationellt intresse. Hans verk hade visats på tre kontinenter och det som kom att bli hans sista, Hunt for the Unabomber, väckte stor uppmärksamhet när det ställdes ut på Istanbulbiennalen (2003) och på Sao Paolobiennalen (2006). Verket köptes in av Moderna Museets år 2005.

Remembering Dash Snow

When the artist Dash Snow died of an overdose on July 13, stoned and alone at the Lafayette House in the East Village, detectives found the following items in his room: an empty can of Amstel Light, an empty can of Heineken, an empty bottle of Bacardi rum, three used syringes and 13 glassine envelopes emptied of heroin.

Mr. Snow, who would have turned 28 on Monday, had checked into the hotel that morning, the authorities say, booking a three-day stay. He spent the afternoon and a good part of the evening on a dedicated bender, but as the night drew on, he called his companion of several years, Jade Berreau, who was at a nearby restaurant with friends discussing his deteriorating state and a possible intervention. He was cheerless and dejected on the phone, ranting incoherently and hinting at a fast-approaching death. As the conversation ended, he told Ms. Berreau, who was sitting with their 2-year-old daughter, Secret: “Goodbye. I love you. I’ll see you in another world.”

Weekdays socks release party

On Tuesday I went to the weekdays socks release party at Konstfack. Except the 20 pairs of socks in my bag we also tried the Jumping castles, a loot of fun!!

SCENE AND HERD

I have to start my "going through all emails from vacation" by writing about an exhibition by the fantastic New York based photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya. The exhibition will be held at the WAY OUT WEST MUSIC FESTIVAL in gothenburg, sweden on august 14-15.

And to decribe the images, Music as photographs. Its really thoose moments, that you wich you could go back to, the perfect moment of friendships, love, hate, happiness. Its the single moment that you always keep in mind and which you could travel back to again. This is it, all together with friends and friends of friends meeting in a fantastic set up. Stolen moments in a way.
