FRONT + BACKWARDS
Dogma: I am God
Never odd or even
Too bad – I hid a boot
Rats live on no evil star
No trace; not one carton
Was it Eliot's toilet I saw?
Murder for a jar of red rum
May a moody baby doom a yam?
Go hang a salami; I'm a lasagna hog!
Satan, oscillate my metallic sonatas!
A Toyota! Race fast... safe car: a Toyota
Straw? No, too stupid a fad; I put soot on warts
Are we not drawn onward, we few, drawn onward to new era?
Doc Note: I dissent. A fast never prevents a fatness. I diet on cod
No, it never propagates if I set a gap or prevention
Anne, I vote more cars race Rome to Vienna
Sums are not set as a test on Erasmus
Kay, a red nude, peeped under a yak
Some men interpret nine memos
Campus Motto: Bottoms up, Mac
Go deliver a dare, vile dog!
Madam, in Eden I'm Adam
Oozy rat in a sanitary zoo
Ah, Satan sees Natasha
Lisa Bonet ate no basil
Do geese see God?
God saw I was dog
Dennis sinned

Behind the Scenes with Pipilotti Rist, Pour Your Body Out (7354 Cubic Meters), MoMA
The Museum of Modern Art presents a new large-scale installation by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist (b. 1962), entitled Pour Your Body Out (7354 Cubic Meters). A pioneer in the field of innovative multimedia installations, Rist is best known for her playfully provocative video, sound, and sculptural environments.
MoMA commissioned the artist to reinvent the space and reenvision the architecture of the Museum's Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium—a space with a volume measuring approximately 7,354 cubic meters. The resulting installation is a lush, immersive landscape shaped by images, sound, and sculptural elements.
Pipilotti Rist's lush multimedia installations playfully and provocatively merge fantasy and reality. Visitors will be able to experience the work while walking through the space or sitting upon a sculptural seating island designed by the artist. (c) 2008 The Museum of Modern Art, New York

FACEHUG is announcing the launch of its second issue by the Swedish artist
Johanna Gustafsson Fürst. The edition will be presented in two consecutive, interdependent
acts, drawing the spectator into a direct contemplation upon the veils constituting our perception
of textual and phenomenal materiality.
FACEHUG is a conceptual text project initiated in 2007, inviting one individual artist each year
to interpret the medium of the art publication into an optional format and edition, originating in
the textual framework of each artist.

Nicolas Bourriaud talking about - Altermodern
Altermodern is a term that describes art made in today's global context which is a reaction against standardisation and commercialism. It is defined by Nicolas Bourriaud in the title of the Tate Britain's fourth Triennial exhibition.
A series of four one-day events, or Prologues, introduce and provoke debate around the Triennial’s themes. Each Prologue comprises lectures, performances, film and a manifesto text and attempts to define the four main facets of Altermodern: the end of postmodernism; cultural hybridization; traveling as a new way to produce forms; and the expanding formats of art. The fourth prologue, Borders, is scheduled for January 2009.
In his keynote "Modern, Postmodern, Altermodern?" Nicolas Bourriaud describes:
"Artists are looking for a new modernity that would be based on translation: What matters today is to translate the cultural values of cultural groups and to connect them to the world network. This “reloading process” of modernism according to the twenty-first-century issues could be called altermodernism, a movement connected to the creolisation of cultures and the fight for autonomy, but also the possibility of producing singularities in a more and more standardized world."

A very interesting video about the artist Leo Villareal. A vj´s wet dream. Remind me a lot of uva´s work.

Interesting article on Art Review
Only a month ago – well after the Crisis had kicked off – Forbes was breathlessly reporting that some billionaires had managed – inadvertently or otherwise – to 'hedge' their balance sheets by investing in fine art. Eli Broad, for example, had lost approximately $2 billion in his equities portfolio over the previous year, the magazine reported, but the 'soaring value' of his art collection (it increased by $1.9b in the same time, according to a recent appraisal) had nearly made up for it....
Well, I've got some bad news for Mr Broad and anyone else with art on the balance sheet. Based on last week's auction results (and last month's in London), collectors should be marking down the value of their holdings by roughly 40 percent – which, as it happens, parallels the year-to-date losses on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (down 37 percent since this time last year) and the S&P 500 Index (down 42 percent for the same period).

November 3rd-29th 2008: Tomoko Sawada Exhibition.
Tomoko Sawada graduated from Seian University of Art and Design and is known for works such as "ID400" in which she transforms herself into 400 different persons, or "OMIAI" where she tackles Japanese tradition of arranged marriages in which photo albums of a potential soon-to-be-bride are presented to prospective families. By showing herself in so many situations and possibilities, she invites viewers to think about common existing ambiguities between appearance and personality. Her new serie "Decoration", presented at colette, is really about Japanese fashion, especially among Tokyo-Harajuku’s young generation. This will be her first show in France, during the Paris-Photo Japan special event.
All 4 sold out books by Tomoko Sawada will be available at colette, as well as t-shirts by Lammfromm.
Signature November 14th, 6pm.
