Under sommaren har Rudi ingått i Welds nordiska residensprogram som stöds av KK-nord och Konstnärsnämnden.

Last thursday I worked as the producer for Moon Spoon Saloon when they presented the collection called California in Stockholm in conjunction with Tal R:s exhibition and opening at Magasin 3.

Moonspoon Saloon is a unique edition fashion label on the frontiers of art and fashion. The artistic collaboration between designer Sara Sachs and painter Tal R is united in a clothing brand that has set out to create 99 characters in 99 unique interpretations installed in a playful gender bending universe. Photographer Noam Griegst is also a part of the collective. The project appears as collections and performances in various contexts; from bizarre runway shows to performances in art spaces and experimental films. In May 2009, Moonspoon Saloon exhibited its third collection White Crane in a performance at Victoria Miro Gallery in London. The L.A. based band We Are The World appeared live on the catwalk and is also featured in the new Moonspoon Saloon film which will be premiered at A Shaded View On Fashion Film Festival at Palais de Tokyo in Paris in September.

The new Moonspoon Saloon collection titled California were presented in Stockholm last thursday as an extraordinary rollerskate performance, in a historic battle between a man with heavy luggage and a gang of free spirited rollerskaters, the performance features a fight between California and the tense man.

Hvass&Hannibal coming to Stockholm

Hvass&Hannibal is a Copenhagen based design and visual art studio
established in 2006 by Sofie Hannibal and Nan Na Hvass.
In September the duo will be decorating the walls of Stockholm's Allmänna
Galleriet with giant kaleidoscopic murals. This will be a visual
experiment drawing on the use of geometric diagrams to evoke different
mental states.

During the period 8th september – 17th october there will be a small
exhibition of Hvass&Hannibal's previous work in the restaurant at Allmänna
Galleriet 925, and there will be screen prints and posters for sale. This
will be the duo's first show in Stockholm, and will be a continuation of
their work from their previous exhibition 'Magic Hour' at Mohs Exhibit in
Copenhagen earlier this year.

From their studio in Copenhagen Hvass&Hannibal work on both commercial
projects and personal work, and have a resume that covers everything from
album covers, music videos, graphic art, silkscreen prints, art direction,
illustration, installation and more. Their innovative and decorative work
sends the viewer on an imaginative journey into folkloric worlds, where
dancing skeletons, living food and strange animals roam in utopian

The people behind the restaurant/gallery is really a fantastic crew, organizing exhibitions, parties, inviting people to their second home at Enskilda/almänna galleriet.

Ola Pehrsons konstnärskap rör vi oss med snabbhet mellan mentala representationer och tankefigurer till virituella världar och skenvärldar. Centralt är intresset för det mänskliga beteendet, vad som styr det och hur det kan manipuleras. Intresset för hur vi uppfattar verkligheten och hur denna uppfattning sedan formar rörelsemönster och beteende manifesterades redan tidigt då Ola, i början av sin kariär, konstruerade en typ av glasögon genom vilka användaren fick en rapphönas synfält. Fascinationen över vår perception, resulterade även i verk som på olika sätt handlar om information och media, och om de mekanismer som gör att vi bedömmer något som trovärdig eller icke trovärdig. Olas konstnärskap har på så sätt starka beröringspunkter med den kongnitiva vetenskapen och i ett flertal verk återkom han till en av vår samtids mest betingande krafter; den globaliserade marknaden: Denna månghövdade och till synes allsmäktiga makt som vi alla kommit att bli en del utav, och som ibland håller oss under armarna - ja får oss att flyga, för att i nästa stund nyckfullt släppa oss i fritt fall. Trots sin konceptuella underfundighet stannar Ola Pehrsons konstverk aldrig vid smart satir utan glider över både i andliga och surrealisitska gränsland och väcker högst existentiella frågeställningar med beröringspunkter ända tillbaka till Platons idélära. Men samtidigt som konstverken leder oss ut på de djupaste farvatten, för de oss nästan alltid tillbaka till den ”lilla världen”; och mer precis till konstnärens föräldrarhem, en förtortsvilla i Skälby utanför Stockholm. I Olas konstnärskap framträder föräldrarhemmet i olika skepnader och tycks sväva omkring i ett besynnerligt universum där kapitalismens väsen existerar bland andra svårgripara krafter och betingelser. Ibland drar sig perspektivet långt tillbaka och vi tycks betrakta förortsvillan och människorna som bor där från ett utommänskligt plan, för att i nästa stund dras ända in i mamma Berits kök, och djupare ned i det undermedvetnas irrgångar.

Ola Pehrson föddes 1964 och utbildde sig till konstnär på Idun Lovén och på Kungliga Konsthögskolan i Stockholm. Han fick sitt publika genombrott 1999 med verket Yucca Invest Trading Plant som bland annat visades på Tensta konsthall och på Moderna Museet i Stockholm. Vid sin död, i april 2006, hade Olas konstnärskap väckt stort internationellt intresse. Hans verk hade visats på tre kontinenter och det som kom att bli hans sista, Hunt for the Unabomber, väckte stor uppmärksamhet när det ställdes ut på Istanbulbiennalen (2003) och på Sao Paolobiennalen (2006). Verket köptes in av Moderna Museets år 2005.

Remembering Dash Snow

When the artist Dash Snow died of an overdose on July 13, stoned and alone at the Lafayette House in the East Village, detectives found the following items in his room: an empty can of Amstel Light, an empty can of Heineken, an empty bottle of Bacardi rum, three used syringes and 13 glassine envelopes emptied of heroin.

Mr. Snow, who would have turned 28 on Monday, had checked into the hotel that morning, the authorities say, booking a three-day stay. He spent the afternoon and a good part of the evening on a dedicated bender, but as the night drew on, he called his companion of several years, Jade Berreau, who was at a nearby restaurant with friends discussing his deteriorating state and a possible intervention. He was cheerless and dejected on the phone, ranting incoherently and hinting at a fast-approaching death. As the conversation ended, he told Ms. Berreau, who was sitting with their 2-year-old daughter, Secret: “Goodbye. I love you. I’ll see you in another world.”

I have to start my "going through all emails from vacation" by writing about an exhibition by the fantastic New York based photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya. The exhibition will be held at the WAY OUT WEST MUSIC FESTIVAL in gothenburg, sweden on august 14-15.

And to decribe the images, Music as photographs. Its really thoose moments, that you wich you could go back to, the perfect moment of friendships, love, hate, happiness. Its the single moment that you always keep in mind and which you could travel back to again. This is it, all together with friends and friends of friends meeting in a fantastic set up. Stolen moments in a way.

SHOWstudio just moved to Bruton Place, the old Maison Margiela shop in London and now after practicaly just moved in they opened a shop called SHOP.

" For the first time, the SHOWstudio SHOP will offer for sale some of the spectacular props that have graced iconic photographic shoots and catwalk shows, selected from historical and contemporary fashion imagery and created by set designers and fashion stylists including Simon Costin, Katy England, Simon Foxton, Shona Heath, Jane How, Michael Howells and Gideon Ponte.

Above are a few examples of the first items to grace the Bruton Place SHOWstudio SHOP: a minaturised Victorian greenhouse and oversized cherries created by Simon Costin for a Tim Walker campaign with Coco Rocha; the illuminated dollar-sign from our 2003 project SHOOT; a Union Jack customised by John Galliano for Nick Knight's 2001 portrait (as seen in our Past, Present and Couture project); and that stuffed Bengal tiger seen (alongside its very real counterpart) in Nick Knight's Crane Vs. Tiger imagery for Alexander McQueen PUMA and our Raw Power shoot footage. "

Tomorrow is a symposium at the arkitekturmuseet which is the last thing before the exhibition closes. I will post some more when everthyng is done.

För att avsluta ALTER/MODE arrangeras ett symposium lördagen den 30 maj, 2009. Under dagen möts curatorer, konstnärer, designers och producenter för att utforska gränslandet kring mode ur ett interdisciplinärt perspektiv.

Frågeställningarna som påbörjats i utställningen diskuteras vidare under denna dag. Syftet är att bidra till en diskussion om mode i vidare bemärkelse, se över en disciplin i förändring samt samtala om relationen mellan konst och mode, även hur vi kan utbyta erfarenheter mellan dessa olika fält.

Dagen varvas med personliga röster kring modeprojekt för att övergå till hur mode på olika sätt har används på andra sätt än det som vi är vana att se.

SYMPHOSIUM: Fashion beyond clothes

WHAT: This exhibition features a pedagogical part including lectures, discussions, projections and installations, this conference presents a critical appraisal of an expanding field of fashion from installations, performance-based live-projections, sculpting, video art, photography to digital and virtual reality events.

This one-day symposium brings together curators, artists, designers, producers social scientists and policy-makers to explore fashion from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Today fashion, in its broadest sense, is not only the site of important economic and cultural praxis, but equally an interface for questions of identity, politics of representation, and redefinition of social models. It is this "expanded" conception, as observed in cinema and sculpture of the sixties, which should lead us to reassess the frontiers and models structuring the field of "fashion" .

Expanded Fashion identifies a practice which activates fashion disconnected from trends, shopping and the functionality of clothes. Instead working with it as an artistic medium expressing personal thoughts and ideas.

“The term fashion poses delimitational difficulties; finding sufficient and necessary parameters to define something as beeing artistic fashion has been challenging.”

The purpose of the exhibition ALTER/MODE: a world in between: fashion beyond clothes is to function as a venue of dialogue. The artists Andrea Ayala Closa and Bogomir Doringer, influenced by different times, spaces and media, redefine the notion of fashion in the era of globalization. They showcase a world where
fashion meets art; a world sprung from the theory that fashion is separate from clothes and their functionality – where the contradiction itself becomes a way through which to observe fashion. Ayala Closa exhibits at the Kleerup Gallery and Doringer shows his work at Weld. At a first glance, spectators might find these venues to be far apart but already at the entrance, the two spaces melt
together and become one. Live stream video walls allow the audience to observe both the physical pieces within the actual space they are in, all the while observing pieces projected on the screen from the other venue. At the Architecture museum, a third room will be presented for the visitors. Functionning as a controlroom, it will feature two big screens showing the activity in the exhibition
spaces Weld and Gallery Kleerup. The museum will also host a series of lectures and discussions during the period of the exhibition. This exhibition wants to give the visitor the possibility of observing fashion separated from trends, shopping
and functionality. The term fashion contains a variety of meanings and the explanation one will get depends on the person who is asked to explain it.

ALTER/MODE features two artists who have chosen to work with fashion as a tool for artistic expression. For the exhibition, a catalogue is also published, in which Ayala Closa and Doringer speak with the exhibition’s curator about the borderland in which they find
themselves, and their view on their own identities. For the making of the catalogue, a large number of photographers, designers, artists, illustrators, editorializers and curators have been invited and encouraged to interpret this borderland in their own way.

ANDREA AYALA CLOSA
(b. 1979 in Barcelona, Spain)
Barcelona-born Ayala Closa grew up in the Spanish countryside, where she invented her own dream world of animals and fantastic characters. Since, she has lived, studied and worked in Antwerp, Belgium, and in Dublin, Ireland. She recently returned to her
native Barcelona, and although her work reflects on the many contradictions between rural and urban anonymity, it is still highly influenced by her childhood dream world. Ayala Closa has since her years at Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts – the home
of the celebrated Antwerp Six – been renowned for her runway shows. Functioning as performance pieces, her shows allow the expression of important concepts which chronicle her perspective on suggestion and obsession through cultural signs. Her silhouettes are drawn away from traditional gender specific outfits and she has
created an implicational visual environment, allowing the viewer to take an active role in the experience of her work.
Ayala Closa believes in the power of observation and in the power that the mind unconsciously has to make objects come alive. Clothes are her means of conceptual exploration and the garments are imbued with her ideas and her thought processes. For ALTER/MODE, Ayala Closa draws parallels between elements of her past collections
as well as paintings and objects made more recently. The human-scale paintings together with her silhouettes manifest cultural values through poignant symbolism. Inspired by different rituals and ceremonies, she creates new meanings associated with her own life and background.

BOGOMIR DORINGER
(b. 1983 in Belgrade, Serbia)
Doringer titles himself immigrant, artist and fashion designer. His inspiration comes from the mass media, and the way it influences the thoughts and behaviour of the audience. Selective and collective memories interest him; he questions the media’s fabrication of specific topics and experiments with how the audience remembers these topics in the future. Doringer started working in the field of fashion as he considered it to be the only real way of criticizing the “face” of society. Belgrade-born Doringer grew up during the Balkan armed conflicts. He now lives and works in Amsterdam, and the contrast has led to a particular interest in ideas such
as cultural identity, nation-states, migration and dislocation. After having arrived in Holland, his work started reflecting on post-war values, and his status as an immigrant intensified his interest in sociopolitical issues. Doringer trained at the Audio Visual Department of the Rietveld Academy, and is cur-
rently attending the master course offered by the Film and TV Academy. He describes his work as being a narrative, a form of storytelling, incorporating different themes:

“I place these themes on a timeline and start building the plot line around it”. His exhibitions are designed to be experienced culturally by his audience through a variety of media, including drawings, photographs, films and fashion.

In ALTER/MODE, Doringer presents the fifth phase of his project Fashion and Despair. In this project, the artist reflects upon the ongoing story about Natasha Kampush, who escaped eight years of captivity in a cellar and managed to change from being a victim
to becoming a talk show host in the Austrian channel PULS 4. Having investigated the victim role, the transformation of identity and the media’s part in fabricating an engaging story in the first four phases of his project, Doringer brings the parts together in this phase. The visitor gets to try on the role of the exposed, being
surveyed by the room. By using a story of nostalgia, longing and dispersal, Doringer investigates the complex relationship between artist, object, site and spectator.

FIRST WE WENT TO THE OPENING OF SANTIAGO SIERRAS EXHIBITION AT MAGASIN 3 IN STOCKHOLM. SINCE IT WAS SO MANY PEOPLE AND AN OPENING IT WAS HARD TO FOCUS SO MUCH ON THE ACTUAL EXHIBITION, I WILL HAVE TO COME BACK SOON TO CHECK IT MORE CLOSER. AFTER THE OPENING SPEECH BY DAVID NEUMAN, THE DIRECTOR OF MAGSIN 3, THE PERFORMANCE STARTED. WE WENT OUT ON THE BALCONY AND 7 BIG TRUCKS CAME ALONG THE STREET WHILE A SMALL GIRL WALKED OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TO STOP THE BIG TRUCKS.

Santiago Sierra gör vårens stora utställning på Magasin 3. Sedan 1990-talet har Sierra arbetat med samhällskritiska aktioner. Han har representerat Spanien i Venedigbiennalen genom att mura igen den spanska paviljongen, arbetat med drogmissbrukare och prostituerade och räknat ut ett inkomstindex i relation till hudfärg. Sierras verk lämnar inte någon oberörd. Genom formella presentationer eller iscensatta händelser visar han och påminner om sociala förhållanden. Själva händelsen, spåren och dokumentationen av den, är verket. I sina titlar beskriver konstnären precis vad vi ser och vi bjuds därmed att se bortom formen eller handlingen som utförs.

Transport och handel som kännetecknar frihamnsområdet är viktiga ämnen i hans konstnärskap och blir fokus för utställningen. Konstnären tar fasta på Stockholms frihamn där konsthallen ligger och skapar två nya verk. Han visar också sitt hittills mest omfattande skulpturala verk från 2006 och låter utställningen fortsätta ut på stadens affischtavlor.

Dont miss this exhibition if you are in Stockholm 26 february. Gustaf Von Arbin is a very exciting new artist represented by Art Department. Von Arbin has worked across a range of different media – using large-scale drawings, performances and installations, His work throughout is characterised by in a way raw and edgy characters with a philosphical touch. He also works as a tutor at Beckmans design school in Stockholm.

Last week he had an exhibition in Berlin, look at these pictures, and I really like the idea of the meeting between the two worlds.

So the next exhibition is in Stockholm at the vintage shop Katitzi. He will present an "art collection" inspired by the nature. He will only produce a limited set of each product. So if you are in Stockholm you should visit and buy a piece of art to wear.

Sketch by Adolphe Appia for the set of a Wagnerian drama: notice the complete use of the three dimensions and the absence of realistic or picturesque elements.
The theories of Adolphe Appia transformed the performing arts. The Swiss stage designer and director attached particular importance to the text and to the actor, which for him were inseparable from the sets and lighting. This was such a new ideas and new theories were formed by this man. I am at the moment learning a lot from him.

"Konst (film/video), aktivism och politik" är ett filmprogram och seminarium som undersöker film/video som kritisk praktik, samt relationen mellan konst (film/video), aktivism och politik.

I programmet ingår filmer av Ashley Hunt, Esra Ersen, Hito Steyerl, Laura Horelli, Carlos Motta, Oliver Ressler/Zanny Begg, och Ursula Biemann.

Seminariet på lördagen har upplägget av ett samtal mellan seminariedeltagarna. Vi kommer särskilt att bjuda in personer med anknytning till de aktuella ämnesområdena. Moderator och samtalsledare är Nina Möntmann. Frågeställningar som rör det dokumentära samt användningen av film/video som strategi för social förändring kommer att lyftas upp under samtalet.

"Konst (film/video), aktivism och politik" är den första av en serie händelser som Filmklubben (Petra Bauer, Michele Masucci och Jesper Nordahl) organiserar i samarbete med wip:konsthall under våren. Filmvisningarna och seminariet är en utveckling av filmprogrammet, "Art (film/video), activism and politics", som Michele Masucci och Jesper Nordahl ursprungligen sammanställde i samband med European Social Forum i Malmö hösten 2008.

Screeningprogrammet visas både den 7:e februari och den 8:e februari.

Under mer än ett decennium har poeten och musikern Lee Ranaldo och konstnären Leah Singer samarbetat i multimedia performances. Lee Ranaldo är medlem i och var med och grundade bandet Sonic Youth och Leah Singer arbetar som konstnär främst med film.

Utställningen "iloveyouihateyou" på Magasin 3 utgår från Leah Singer och Lee Ranaldos audiovisuella verk med samma namn. Verket är en undersökning av hur bild och ljud samverkar, utformad antingen som liveperformance eller som installation. På Magasin 3 sker båda delar: utställningen öppnar med en performance av Singer och Ranaldo och verket tar sedan formen av en utställning. Deras performance-verk och installationer för samman ett flöde av bilder och ljud tagna från vardagen, ögonblick som understryker det vackra i det alldagliga och gör det oansenliga extraordinärt.

I utställningen visas även tre historiska experimentfilmer som understryker temat ”vardag” och möjligheten att se det stora i det lilla. Filmerna är gjorda av Gordon Matta-Clark, Terry Fox, Nancy Holt & Robert Smithson.
